Transition Services

Our House's Transition Services are geared towards students who are preparing for the transition from school to adult life. Services can be broken down into two main components:

Community Based Vocational Assessment
Job Placement/Job Coaching services

The Community Based Vocational Assessment consists of "job sampling" experiences at three to five different business sites. The Assessment is conducted two days per week for four weeks. The student visits each business site twice, unless one site is clearly not a good fit for the student's skills, and then an additional site is introduced. This enables the student to identify his or her work interests and abilities, and guides decision-making toward an appropriate job match. It gives the student an opportunity to experience a variety of work environments, and to determine his or her career goals and work preferences.

Job Placement and one-on-one Job Coaching Services enables the student to gain essential vocational and social skills necessary for their future success in employment, and identifies the training and support needs required to maintain employment.

Job placement involves identifying a business with a job opening that suits the student's interests and skills, negotiating work tasks, schedules, hours, wages, and any accommodations or job modifications that may be needed. One-on-one job coaching is provided at the job site to help the student adjust to the employer's expectations for quantity and quality of work.
